Guinea is located in West Africa. It is bordered to the north by Senegal and part of Mali, to the northwest by Guinea-Bissau, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by Sierra Leone and Liberia, and to the east by Ivory Coast and part of Mali. Its area is 246,000 km².
The climate is tropical with two seasons: the rainy season, from May to October (varying somewhat depending on the region), and the dry season. During the rainy season, the average monthly precipitation can reach 400 mm.
Guinea consists of four climatic regions:
The western region, along the Atlantic coast, is very humid.
The climate is more temperate in the center (two equal seasons, with rains from May to November).
In the northeast, the climate is tropical dry with lower rainfall, high temperatures except from December to February when the wind blows (20°C compared to 40°C).
The southeast of Guinea is subequatorial with a long rainy season (8 to 10 months) and average temperatures ranging from 24°C to 38°C.
The seasons do not correspond to variations in sunrise and sunset times. Day and night each last about 12 hours, with the sun rising around 6:45 AM and setting around 6:45 PM, with little variation throughout the year. The local time is in the timezone.
